I'm Tina,

Czech expat living in Malta and looking to rediscover what made me fall in love with the island 9 years ago.

Quick dip at Slugs Bay

Quick dip at Slugs Bay

The average temperature in Malta in the middle of July is about 35 degrees Celsius in the shade, so every opportunity I have I look for ways to cool down. But then again the few (sandy) beaches we have are overcrowded and all beach clubs are overpriced in my opinion. So what's left to do? I might have an idea...

So either you live in Malta and you are looking for an alternative place for a quick refreshing swim or you are here on holiday and eager to explore off the beaten track, then you might be interested in this little hidden place, this tiny secluded bay - Slugs Bay.

This little hidden gem can be found in the L-Ahrax area in Mellieha. It is not visible from the road and there are no signs. The best way is to find parking when you see the sign below. The sign will be on your left and you will park on the right side of the road. Go towards the sea and you will see Slugs Bay from the top of the cliffs.

It is a very tiny bay, but it´s so beautiful! There is something about this place that makes me come back again and again. Last time i was here was in March I believe. I reached the bay about 9 am on Saturday morning. There were few people there. A couple with two dogs that were just leaving, most probably they were camping near by and came to Slugs Bay to refresh. Then there were another three people just leaving on stand-up boards (that could also be something interesting to do) and two more from the little boat. But by the time I went down they all left so I had the bay all to myself.

And here I am yaaaaay! Ready to go in the water, but I thought I would take a picture with this beautiful rock. A little hiding place, a little bit of shade you can find at this bay. I just love places like this and Malta is full of these hidden gems, you just need to get out and about and explore. And I am here to share my adventures with you as well. :-)

On the other side of the bay you can find a perfectly flat rock, where you can take a nice selfie if you are in need of a new cover photo for your Facebook profile. :) But you can also just sit down, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. After all it's about appreciating all the little things in life, just like this gorgeous inlet. And also the best things in life are free let's remember that.

What do you think of this picturesque panoramic view of Slugs Bay? I think it's absolutely worth the effort to reach this place. If hiking and exploring is your kind of thing then the north of Malta is perfect for you. There are quite a few interesting sites near by too. For example, you can visit the Mark's and Duke's Window or Explore Mellieha's Rocky Seashore.

And now is finally time for the well deserved dip in the water! It was absolutely lovely. Me, myself and at this gorgeous place. Beautiful hidden gem. So if I got you excited about Slugs Bay, which I hope I did, below is the exact location.

I would only recommend a good pair of shoes as at some places in can be rather slippery. I don't think you would hang out all day as it is a very small place, but if you bring your goggles you might stay for few hours. Just keep in mind they are no shops or toilets near by. So bring some snacks & water and your next Saturday/Sunday morning is sorted. :)
